If you read the news coming out of Washington these days, you might wonder whether our best years as a country are behind us – whether we’ll be able to pass the serious tests headed our way. Yet for all the uncertainties we face, we should be confident in this: we are Americans and Americans overcome challenges.
I am running for Congress because I believe we can and will solve the problems that face our country, and I want to help lead that effort. I’ve spent the past 22 years involved in public service. As New York’s Secretary of State, I worked closely with local government, business, and community leaders and citizens from every corner of our state. I am proud of my record as a leader who got things done by bringing people together, listening to their points of view, and finding commonsense solutions.
Congress needs that kind of experience. Too often these days, government seems to be on a different page than the rest of us. Congressmen and senators become captive to the ways of Washington, worrying more about which political party gets the advantage than solving real problems.
We deserve a representative in Congress who will listen to our problems, stand up for our principles, and work in good faith to accomplish our goals. I will.
We deserve a representative who will fight for less government, one who will make sure our tax dollars are spent wisely and that we get our fair share of our tax dollars back from the federal government. I will.
We deserve a representative who will serve the people of this district, not his or her own political ambitions. I will.
We deserve a representative who will treat the office with honor and respect. I will.
I have called upstate New York home for my entire life. My family has had a farm in the Adirondacks for over a hundred years. From the High Peaks of the North Country, to the Hudson Valley, to the Catskills, our congressional district’s natural beauty is unmatched. There’s no more attractive place than right here for the high-tech jobs of the new global economy. With hard work and dedication, our future is going to be brighter than any of us can imagine.
There are challenging times ahead for our country, but as Americans we are always ready. Our leaders must live up to those standards. As your Congressman, I will.
And I have the greatest confidence in what we can achieve together.
Sincerely,
Sandy Treadwell
